Matthew left Kings College Auckland at the age of 17 to pursue a career in building and construction. During his five years’ apprenticeship, he learned all aspects of building, including joinery and furniture making to the highest quality and standards.

Matthew was born into a family with a long history in forestry, timber and building. From an early age, he wanted to become a great carpenter, and the last 30 years proved that he had made an excellent choice for himself. Thanks to his building career, Matthew had the opportunity to be involved in many exciting projects and adventures including building log houses in Canada, doing a lot of boating and sailing, flying commercially for a regional airline and raising a young family.

His favourite quote is, ‘There is nothing better than building your own home, the best one you could imagine, and living in it with your family!’

​Matthew is the most calm, tidy and talented builder. He has an exceptional eye for detail and his craftsmanship is second to none. He has done several renovations in my house and the results are more than I could have ever hoped for. His experience and established network with others trades meant all jobs were all completed super fast and to the highest standard. It is always a very happy experience to have the Colebrook and Co team working on my house.
